Consider: The Three Elven Rings Are Evil
The Three Elven Rings of Tolkien-- Narya, Nenya and Vilya-- were fashioned by Celebrimbor but never touched by Annatar (Sauron) himself. However, they were crafted by his arts. The greatest fear of Elvenkind during the LotR was that Sauron would regain the One Ring, and expose all the Three had to hide. How could Sauron do this? By the essential connection between all the Rings of Power: the power of Sauron himself.
The Three are supported by the power of the Ring Lord, and they stand or fall by him. The Three do not fade after the War of the Ring because the Elves said "Yey! We won! Lates, Middle Earth. We're going home now and the Three are being put out because their mission is done." No. The Three fade because the force behind their power, Sauron, is gone.
"And..?"
At the end of LotR, the keepers of the Three (Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf) depart for the Uttermost West, sporting their swag as they go. But why would Valinor accept the arrival of these tokens, so tainted as they are by the premiere lieutenant of Morgoth? The final act in the War of the Ring was when the West rejected the spirit of Curunir (Saurman) after his death at Bag End. Yet Saurman himself never touched or used the Three, but coveted the One. So the wielders of the Three are permitted to sail over Sea with the tainted Rings on their persons, and the traitor who never used any Ring is rejected by the West?

I just started watching a YouTube commetary about this new LotR show that's coming out and how the Intratubes are having endless connipitions about having to see Black dwarves and elves and a re-invented Galadriel, amongst other sins I guess. The commentator, without either hesitation or the slightest irony, talks at-length how modern artists in charge of legacy properties need to work within the limitations of the source material and resist the artist's impulse to piss all over the source and make it theirs. All the time he's doing this, he's showing clip after clip from Jackson's film trilogy. Okay, okay. Hold on. Old Fat Jackson does the following things in violation of the source material: *Reinvents numerous characters, both main and supporting, in ways belittling, activist and perverse. *Shuffles plot points, events and scenes totally out of order, when not removing them altogether and just pulling new material out of his own ass. This places characters in scenes they never were

Keeping in mind that the 'ring of power' was really inspired by the ring of Gyges as discussed by Plato in The Republic some 2,300+ years ago.
I'm a big fan of the LOTR films and have seen them several times. Yet even after so many viewings I am still not certain about the specifics of how the one ring works. Frankly it doesn't seem all that impressive to me. It can apparently render the wearer invisible, but not to the ring wraiths or to Sauron. We know Gandalf can't see someone wearing it, so there is that. We also know that it is 'virtually indestructable' and that's about it. When Borimir suggests "Let us use it against the enemy" I literally laughed out loud. How? Maybe I'm over-thinking what is really just a plot device to propell the story...but I still have unanswered questions.
